Welcome to the world on online journaling (aka Blogging). Juicy Pens, Thirsty Paper is my new companion as I continue to explore the world of being a writer and artist. Your juicy inspiration, bursts of color, words, swirls, hope, and art explode to life in this book. Thank you for creating and for helping me give myself permission to dare bigger, bolder, and brighter then I ever thought possible.

Hooray Susan!!!! I gulped the book down in one bite. I’m revising my first full-length poetry book honoring my mother’s life and flirting with two novel ideas I had years ago. Your book helps so much! I wish you so much fun and breathtaking experiences as you tour the country.

You are such a huge inspiration to me, and your new book is absolutely lovely. I’m only about 40 pages into it, but I’ve already started on that journal that has sat in the corner of my desk collecting dust up until now! I’m excited about what is to come– hopefully I will pick up where I left off on my story! Again, thanks so much. Lots of love! 🙂

  6. Bohemian mom

I’m so excited to see another book coming out. I love to take your books to a quiet park and sit in the grass and feel free. I have so many of your words taped on my walls at work. After reading your words, I feel like I can breathe again. Thank you for that. You’re amazing!

Congratulations on your book launch! I can’t wait to get it!
I have a set of seven moleskine journals – each one is swathed in a different color of silk from a gloriously vibrant rainbow.
I’ve known that I’ve wanted to secret away love poems and thoughts on love and advice to my son about love in the red one; and stuff about the earth and connecting with our planet and pictures and stuff about Mother Earth in the green one…..and so on.
I’ve dabbled here and there in them, but I’m really looking forward to becoming intoxicated on some additional creative inspiration that I am certain lies within the pages of your new book. So, now you will also be a part of this beautiful “Rainbow Legacy” I hope to leave behind for the future generations of the “Rainbow Tribe”.
Thank you so much for your courage, inspiration, wisdom and guidance!

Once upon a time, there was a woman who was filled with wonder and discovery. This woman, stretching a big stretch, discovered that living outloud in words was not only good food for her own spirit, but also provided abundant nourishment to those who read these color-full words. …
… and the hearts grew full of life and love was shared abundantly, all over the world.
And the woman paused for a moment and was deeply touched by the miracle of words.
SARK — thank you for the many, many gifts you have shared with the souls roaming this planet. What a bright spot you are in the sea of life that lives like the ocean currents. I can’t wait until your new gift arrives in my home. I will welcome it with open arms, open eyes, and especially and open heart.
And then, one day, a sprite-full soul discovered these words, and her heart opened like a flower reaching for the warm, nourishing sun. …
… and Swee Pea was filled with joy and wonderment…

My husband sent me this link. Said it reminded him of me. I now see why. A kindred spirit. I’ll look for your book. You are new to me and already a role model as I pursue life and words and color and beauty and my dream of being a great writer one day…step by step.

  17. Shannon

    Dearest SARK-
I feel as though we are great friends. You have been in my life now for many years and have been a huge source of inspiration to me. I think I reference your name at least once a week.
When I’m feeling down and defeated all I have to do is pick up one of your books and I’m reminded of what I already know – that I, too, deserve to live a FULL, FREE, AWAKENED life. I used to say that I wanted to live a “SARK lifestyle” and I can happily say that I’m on my way to manifesting that dream. Because of your inspiration I am able to celebrate and embrace my own creativity and have been truly inspired to do the same for others.
Thank you for your continued courage, spark and authenticity.
You truly are a free spirit.
    Warmly,
    Shannon

Congratulations on your new book and new blog! I wrote about finding my juicy pen. Swing by and check it out at: http://www.collagediva.com
Several of my friends have read my entry and are heading out to buy your new book as well as the Fabulous Friendship Festival.
You have been a great inspiration!
I will be traveling to Raleigh, NC next week and can make it to your tour stop in Durham. Yeah! You are a gem and I thank you for being YOU!

  19. Jennifer

The first time I saw your work, I was 11 years old. My grade six teacher had your “How To Be An Artist” poster up on the wall. Some days I would read it over and over, other days I would focus on one particular sentence. It got into my mind and my soul. I started to ponder.
That was 13 years ago and you still inspire me! You remind me that I can be creative no matter what – even in times of drought. Thank you, THANK YOU, for everything!

  20. claire

hi, sark, so glad you’re joining in the fun in blogland :o)
i posted about your book on my blog the other day, so i won’t say much else here…
other than you’re such a shining star *****

  21. Sarah

TO SARK:CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW BOOK and having markers and pens [and love]that never dry up
I am inspired now to stock up on new magic markers [juicy scented ones}, indulge in pretty paper [thirsty parchment], honor my ideas [all of them], and color a picture with a gigantic box of crayons. mmmmwwwaah

  22. LT

Congrats to you SARK! I can’t really thank you enough for just being you! Your words and work have been the best sort of healing and the most magical inspiration. Wishing you all of the best,
    LT

  23. Patricia

I really enjoy all of the hand-drawn art, especially the little cartoon images of yourself with cat like eyes. The fact that your books are handwritten are inspiration in itself. Helps me feel free of desire to be a perfectionist. Perhaps I will learn to stop being so critical of my work.

  24. Katja

_Juicy_Pens_ was my first taste of your wit & wisdom. I gulped it down at once and immediately went out & bought your other books too! Thank you for the inspiration!
I have to confess to you that I’m going to cut out some of your words & pictures and use them on my vision board. I’m a little conflicted about the destruction of a book, but your writing is too delicious not to incorporate into my vision board. (And, of course, I’m going to buy another book to re-read, and to lend to my boyfriend!)
Hilarious about the pen company you cite in your list of websites! I couldn’t figure out what could be wrong with that address and had to type it in with “.com” to see … I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time. Thank you for that too! You rock!

  25. Elizabeth

I am so excited to see you are blogging. Your books are so inspiring and give me the best feelings. I have always had a side that wants so badly to create, and the evil inner critic would try to beat that down saying I wasn’t good enough. Your books help me build that creativity up by giving it a safe place to live with comforting words.

  26. Annette C

How exciting! I ordered Juicy Pens, Thirsty Paper a week ago and they said I had to wait 3 weeks. Guess what? They just rang to say that it’s there waiting for me!!! Yay. I can hardly wait to pick it up. I’ll look at it, savour it, hold it, and then carry it home with glee in the little bag with the handles. I’ll be shouting out inside me “Hey, look everyone. I’ve got the new SARK book.” Everyone will wonder why I have such a big smile on my face sitting on the bus. When I get home I’ll jump on my bed and soak up every word and glorious picture. THANKYOU SARK. Tons of love and happiness to you SARK from me, Annette x (Sydney, Australia)

  27. Heather

I haven’t gotten the book Juicy Pens, Thirsty Paper yet. But I plan on it soon. I am encouraged by all of the creativity from other books that SARK has written. I hope to tap back into my creative spirit and let some writing come out. I hope all of you are enjoying the book. Much love and light!!!

  33. Annette Conyngham

I made my special journey to the bookshop to get Juciy Pens, Thirsty Paper yesterday. I finished it last night! I’m now looking forward to going over and over it, and dusting off all those journals that have been locked away in their ‘special’ bag – yes it has a lock on it!! I can’t wait to get my creative space set up again when I finally get to my new abode in the next few weeks. As I closed my eyes last night, I got an image of your book in front of me and I felt the energy from it zoom right out at me. My last thought before I went to dreamland was, “How amazing that SARK’s energy goes inside the book and has stayed there right across the Pacific Ocean.” !!!! Happy Annette

And you’ve inspired me to get some juicy pens and thirsty paper to create the logo MYSELF for my t-shirt company!!! I can do it! I don’t need to hire a graphic designer! I know what I want, and I’m going to play around with a big tablet of paper and Crayola markers until I get it!

    Hi Susan (SARK)
Thank you for your inspiration. I’m reading New Creative Companion & practicing positive affirmations. After I completed affirmation/response excercise I felt better about my job performance. Unfortunately my supervisor didn’t feel the same, I am so sad about the job review I’ve just recieved. Thanks to you I know I’ll be okay. I’m learning to dance with difficulty, embrance adversity, clear out negativity, and keep a positive attitute. It isn’t easy & I have a lot to pracice, but I’m thankful to you, Susan, and your inspiration. To quote page 45 in The New Creative Companion, “YOU ARE AMAZING”. I AM AMAZING, WE ARE ALL AMAZING

  44. Charlotte Rainbow Barnes

    SARK:
Where have you been all my life?!! I have been wondering, feeling lost on a self improvement journey for half my adult life (I am 48 yrs young) and I just found you, your books, your website…..what can I say but WOW….I am so amazed…..I cannot absorb enough…..YOU write what I feel, think, etc. I no longer feel like a lost soul strangely unique and not like anyone else….there are others! WHOOO HOOOO!
    Much love!
Spark (look that that…my nickname has your name within it…..hmmnnnn?!!)

  47. Tina

Hi, I just recently found you via a note you had in Sabrina Ward Harrison’s Spilling Open. Last year I decided to try to overcome “not being good enough” by trying to write, and via NaNoWriMo I wrote my first draft of my first manuscript and proved to myself that I can tell a story if I just try. Six months ago my marriage ended due to my husband having affairs, and I suddenly found myself thrust into a new world of being a single working mother after spending 11 years as a stay at home mother and wife. It’s been a difficult road to navigate, and there were times when I felt like I would lose that tiny spark I found last year with my writing, as time seems to be gobbled by obligations every where I turn.
When I checked out Sabrina’s book, I realized I wasn’t alone in feeling the way I do, and I decided I wanted to start journaling in a more creative and artistic way. I am not an artist, but I decided I wanted to try that field of expression. Your note in her book intrigued me (I have a thing for beautiful watercolors) and I looked into your books and you were the salve my soul needed right now.
Currently I have several of your books checked out from the library however I have asked for them for my birthday on Wednesday and after the cake is gone and the people leave I’m going online to order all the ones I didn’t get as gifts, and then I’m going to curl up in bed and enjoy the ones that are mine. You inspire me to let go of expectations and perfectionism, and to explore new talents. Today I read your nap book, and I took a nap. I didn’t condemn myself for napping when I should have been cleaning or doing laundry or mowing the lawn, I didn’t list all the things I could have done with my time instead, I didn’t think poorly of myself for indulging in a nap when I had more important things to do. I laid down leaving the things to be done where they lay, and I curled up under a fluffy cool comforter and I rested and I reveled in it and I awoke feeling wonderful. It’s amazing how powerful just the simple words “You have permission to nap” on a page are.
Thank you for all that you have written. Thank you for glorious swirls of color and squiggly little drawings in the margins that are expressive and yet simple enough to feel achievable. Thank you for sharing your truths and your exhuberance. And most of all, thank you for coming into my life when I felt like everything had been taken away, and helping me see that new things are always blooming and waiting to be discovered and enjoyed.
I hope you have an excellent and marvelous day!
